What’s unfortunate about this indie horror film by Marcel Walz is, while there are a lot of terrific twists, you just wish it was a scarier film.
The story is about Faye (Sarah French), a famous actress living up in the Hollywood hills, dealing with blindness after a botched laser eye surgery. She has a great support group with a friend (Caroline Williams), who has been blind since birth; and a kind-hearted, long-haired, mute coach (Tyler Gallant). But what she doesn’t know is that she has a sinister stalker (Jed Rowen) watching her. We see the weirdo living in a twisted jumble of Christmas lights and baby dolls wearing a kiddie Prince Charming mask.
It’s fun hearing again the throaty exuberance of Caroline Williams (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) and hunky Tyler Gallant is really engaging. But there’s way too much exposition and maudlin self-examination. The eerie “pretty boy” mask that the killer wears is a nice, macabre touch. As is the fate of a nosy sushi delivery man who decides it would be fun to take some secret paparazzi shots of the blind star. Bad idea. What frustrated me is that this movie should have worked better. But still, I have to admit, it did creep me out.
